Bristol I South West I United Kingdom

Positioned where the M4 and M5 Corridors meet Bristol is a perfect gateway to Wales and the Southwest. It is the largest city in the south-west and while not the pretiest when compared to nearby Bath or Wells, Bristol has an elegant charm. Bristol city centre is a trendy and friendly place with a superb mix of modern and old. The city has most things a vibrant city needs, trendy bars and clubs, multiplex cinema's, shopping mall's, parks, galleries, etc with many things unique to the city such as it's history, it's renovated docklands, a highly attractive gorge and two highly regarded universities.

Bristol's controversial history is mostly centred on its port, where tobacco and slaves made up most of the industrial profit of the city. Many famous names such as Colston are associated with slavery from where their profits were derrived. The floating harbour in the city centre is no longer used for trade, but has experienced massive ongoing gentrification and redevelopment with new bars, complexes and stylish apartments being built, changing the face of Bristol while maintaining the attraction.

I have lived in Bristol since I was 3 when I moved here with my parents. Some say I am fortunate to have not picked up the local accent; I agree.

Bristol as seen from space or by a crow with a death wish.

This is where I live, sadly this isn't my garden, but the park behind my house.

Music and Festivals in Bristol

The Colston Hall often has some top groups. There are also many festivals in Bristol and I've seen the likes of Alice Deejay, A1, Lolly, Toploader, Fierce and many more live at free festivals such as the Galaxy 101 fest and the Balloon Fiesta both at Ashton Court.

Places in Bristol

The Clifton Suspension Bridge is a great symbol of Bristol. Commonly used to hang bras across and bungee jumps (with or without rope)

The New @ Bristol area is brilliant. It's totally transformed the Waterfront with lots of perty lights, far better than the Millennium Dome, (we've yet to give it away).

Bristol Zoo is also a great place for a day visit, and comes highly recommended however it can be a bit pricy, however there are plenty of free open park areas in Bristol, Cabot Tower, Ashton Court, The Downs, to name a few. Sadly most of these areas don't have any peinguins, lions, etc running around. Next to the downs you will also found the gorge with the Suspension Bridge across it. Well worth checking out (but avoid at night!)

Since Bristol is founded on it's history as a shipping port the Waterfront is well worth checking out, as well as the @Bristol centre the Industrial Museum, SS Great Britain and sometimes the Matthew are all worth a visit. If you're more into art then the Arnolfini is also along the waterfront. I highly recommend a walk along the waterfront on a sunny day, a full circuit will take you past many of Bristol's best features and some great pubs too!

Shopping Centres in Bristol

The two primary shopping centres for Bristol are the Mall (right) and the galleries in the city centre (left) Most of the stores you would expect to see in any city, e.g. Virgin, Orange, Gadget, Next, H&M, TopMan, French Connection, House Of Fraser, etc are all located in Broadmead or the Mall. However if you are looking for more unique stores then Park Street or the Triangle is a safer bet.
